The Tour Program

Attendance: mandatory, worth one weekly class session

Arrival: Please arrive a few minutes BEFORE the specified time above. Come to the lobby of the building and take the elevator down to the lower level (LL). The class will meet in the lower level in front of the elevators at the time specified in the class scheduled. Attendance will be taken at that time. The group will enter the OIT facilities promptly at that time and the doors to the OIT facilities will then be closed. Heads up: because of the equipment noise we will not be able to hear you knock on the door if you arrive late!!

Our Host and the Tour: Hassan Marvi, OIT's Director of Telecommunications will meet the group in front of the elevators in the lower level. He will give the group a quick introduction to the AU network and then take you inside the computing facilities and show you your web servers, e-mail facilities, AU routers, etc. The introduction and tour will take approximately 45 minutes.

Your Participation: Bring interesting questions about the AU system. Good ethiquete calls for being gracious and appreciative to our hosts, who has kindly agreed to give you a tour despite his very busy schedule. Try to ask interesting questions about IT issues, and refrain from discussing AU system problems you may have experienced.

How to Get There

Take the AU shuttle that goes to the Tenleytown metro station, departing 15 or 20 minutes before the tour time, but ask the driver to drop you off at the intersection of Van Ness St. and Nebraska Ave. If you miss this stop, get off at Wisconsin Avenue. From Nebraska Ave., turn right onto Van Ness or Wisconsin and walk 2-3 blocks to the intersection of Van Ness and Wisconsin Ave. On a nice day you can walk there from the main campus too (0.7 miles).
